Hi Wendy, I’m so excited to be doing this interview with you, I’ve read both of your books Three of Hearts and Three of Spades and I absolutely loved them. What made you want to write these books?

Thanks so much for having me Alice! I’m having quite the fan girl moment with you, myself.

Three of Hearts has been in my mind for a very long time. I decided one day to just write the first few chapters out. Printed two copies; I gave one to my friend and one to my husband, and I said, if it is crap, these two will tell me! My friend came back with how amazing it was and voilà here I am.

How did you come up with the idea for your books?

I wanted to write a love story that didn’t involve perfect people. I had read a wide variety of books and came away disappointed with them because either I could not relate to the characters or the story was unrealistic to me. My life now involves kids and PTA’s, so I wanted to write something that would occur in my life. I’m beyond the stories of early twenty-something fun. Well, at least to write about it, reading is completely different, ha ha!

What I especially loved about Three of Hearts is the fact that you incorporated the family dynamic into the story, it wasn’t just a love story between Seth & Mae it was a love story about a family. How important was it for you to show that side of Seth and Mae’s relationship?

It was very important. It goes back to my desire to want to make a realistic plot. No one likes death, but unfortunately no one is immune to it. Thankfully, my husband and children are alive and well, but I find myself asking, what if something was to happen, I would want him and my kids to find love if I was gone.

I love the fact that your Heroine’s are real women, they aren’t supermodels, they aren’t billionaires, they’re real working class women, with curves and hips and are naturally beautiful. These girls are not waifs, they are REAL. What inspired you to write Mae, specifically, this way?

I’m not a twig, yet every book the women are ALWAYS runway models. I wanted to show my love for what I call the chub club. Women that their pant size is not a single digit, who are completely worthy of attraction from alpha males and ultimately, hot sex and true love. Just because we’ve got curves doesn’t mean we don’t know how to be a sexual woman. Look at Aphrodite, she had curves and she was the Goddess of Love, can’t be by mistake.

Who would win in a fight, Dylan or Seth?

Well, they have gone at it a time or two, but brawn I’d go with Seth, but Dylan, he doesn’t fight fair, so it’s a toss up.

What can you tell us about Wes’ book Three of Diamonds?

Oh! You want to know about Wes Thompson, do you? Wes is that character, for me at least, that he’s desirable but the fact that he is secretive and you want to know why, makes his sex appeal be that much stronger. All I can tell you is, Wes holds his secret close to the vest, but he is gracious enough to share his talents with us.

How did you come up with the town of Hamden?

Being from New England myself, I’m partial to the seasons and our way of life. I felt for security issues I should write what I know, so I chose Vermont. The rest of Hamden just came from my head.

What is your writing process like, do you write daily, is there a certain word count you like to reach every day?

I try to write daily, but it isn’t always obtainable. My kids keep me busy, and they come first so, it all depends on what their schedule is. I try to keep word counts and other similar pressures off myself, because I’m not one to do well under pressure. However, hearing the love for Hamden, definitely helps get me going to get my stories that much closer to the Hamden Loyal.

Are there any fun facts about your books that you want to share?

In Three of Hearts, Robyn’s fiancé, Bryan introduces himself to Mae as, “Hi, I’m Bryan, Bryan with a “y”. Well, a guy actually used that as a pick up line on me, once. My friends and I still laugh and talk about it, so I could help but include that. There are also a lot of little details in my books, that are true to me, my family or my friends. Helped me tell my stories better by having a piece of us in them.

What is your favorite book that you’ve read in the last 6 months

I just read a couple of truly fabulous books. Every Rose by Lynetta Halat, talk about knock you for a loop. No Second Chances by Beverley Hollowed, absolutely incredible. Not to mention this little gem called Translation of Love by someone, I can’t quite remember her name. Absolute literature genius. My problem is, I’m so addicted to reading that I just want to pick up one book after another. But if I did that, I would never get any writing done, so I’ve taken a break from reading. However, I can tell you, my TBR list and my NOOK are on overflow.

How many more books can we expect from this series, do you have any new series in the works?

After Diamonds, I will write two more Hamden books. The fourth installment will be CeCe’s story. You met her in Three of Spades. She is Dylan’s honorary sister. However I have considered writing as many as five more, but we will see.

Tell us something no one knows about you?

Hmmmm. That’s tough, I’m an open book. Oh, wait, I got something. The older I get, the less likely I am to watch television, unless it is on the History, Discovery or Syfy channel. Goofy, I know, but true, none the less.

A little birdie told me that you are super crafty!! What else do you like to do on your downtime?

Oh, I don’t know about the super crafty part, but I do dabble. I like to cook, shop, and play with my kids. With two little ones under the age of five, sometimes getting up in the morning is an adventure in itself.
